 Stone Money

To support and advance, through sustainable sound management of limited resources, the economic development and self-suficiency of the State of Yap.

Strategic Goal:

To foster and facilitate the overall sustainable economic development efforts of the State of Yap consistent with the development aspirations of our private and public sectors.

 

Agriculture:

  • To facilitate and promote sustainable and environmentally sound agricultural and forestry development in the State of Yap for the purpose of achieving sustenance and economic security at the household level and to encourage the commercialization of the outputs of the public and private sector when and where appropriate.

 

Commerce and Industry:

  • To promote a private sector environment conducive to expansion and growth of sustainable development thereby creating investment opportunities, employment opportunities and reduction of reliance on the public sector.
  • Promote investment and facilitate business establishment in Yap State in compliance with applicable statutory requirements.
  • Promote and encourage investment in Yap State through investment information dissemination to prespective investors.
  • Work with and monitor compliance of the private sector with Yap State business laws and regulations.

 

Marine Resources:

  • To manage, conserve and develop the marine resources of the State of Yap in a manner that will provide the best possible economic and social benefit to the people of Yap both today and in the future.

 

Land Resources:

  • To manage and continually be responsible for providing services to the general public and the Government of the State of Yap in dealing with management of planned development programs and projects.
  • Surveying and mapping: Contininuing responsibility to provide services to the general public and the Government of Yap State in dealing with management of planned land development such as surveying land to determine boundaries and areas, computing to create permanent maps and record keeping of land parcel surveyed.
  • Land Registration: Identification and Determination of land parcel boudaries, secure and register land title of ownership and assist loan agencies in securing land documents for loan collateral for business and personal loans.

 

Workforce Enrichment Division (WED)

Programs includes Workforce Enrichment (Yap State Scholarship), Waab Association of Young Entrepreneurs, Workforce Investment Act, Job Corps:

  • To promote and coordinate training opportunities pursuant to enhancing the necessary skills, knowledge and technical capabilites of Yap State's manpower resources. WED seeks augmentation of the State's existing educational, vocational and occupational training opportunities through scholarships, entrepreneurial and workforce training.
  • WED espouses the provision of skills training opportunities from home and abroad to the people of Yap State.
  • Coordination of skills training opportunities in the State: including workforce development. Traditional workforce development, entreprenurial and academic development.
  • Post secondary guidance and counseling services available for all members of our island community.
  • Review and recommend approval/disapproval of all applications of foreign nationals seeking job opportunities in the State. Advertise job openings for local applicants. Seek to increase local participation in the job market and minimize the inflow of foreign labor.
  • Job assistance to youths and dislocated workers (WIA). T-3
  • Summer youth programs to instill employment-related skills in our island's youth.
  • Local liaison to the US Peace Corps and the Oversees Japanese Volunteer Programs.
